Presentation Summit 2015 – Why have I spent $20,000 plus time to be in New Orleans?

September 27, 2015

It’s 3am New Orleans time.  I’m wide awake in my room at the name hotel on Bourbon St, where I’ve chosen to be for the next 4 days at the Presentation Summit 2015. I spent 18 hours travelling here. I missed the most important game of rubgy there has been for years (I discovered on […]

I made a speech a few weeks ago to a business group in Cambridge, UK. I had a great time and met some really interesting people, as usual. One of the people I met was a guy called David Smallman, a business consultant, entrepreneur and radio host of some renown. We chatted for a few […]

7 Ways to Remember Any Name

April 5, 2012

I wrote a post the other day about how I remember people’s names, and how the ability to do it is a really simple way to help you stand out from the crowd. It’s powerful because remembering people’s names is a sign that you’re bothered about them. And we all know why forgetting someone’s name […]

Elevator Pitch? Hopeless! Try a 3 second tease instead

February 21, 2012

I’ve talked a few times about ‘elevator pitches’ before, and as so often happens, we like the idea of having an interesting, short, enticing pitch for all seasons but we don’t ever get round to creating one. Do we? It’s useful for that moment when someone asks us what we do for a living, and […]

Why does pole-dancing pay better than consulting? Easy…

January 6, 2012

I had a great chat with a colleague today.  She’s an ex-investment banker.  One of the UK’s ’40 people in investment banking under 40 to watch out for in 2011′. A singularly inappropriate Christmas greeting-

December 21, 2011

Oh dear, It’s really hard to get this right isn’t it? Yorkshire Building Society creates cards with 6 female employees baking and it gets labelled ‘sexist’. FT Guide to Business Networking- Heather Townsend- Book Review

September 17, 2011

In summary- The book’s great buy it now.

Here’s another book that I’d like to have written. I’d put ‘The FT Guide to Business Networking’ by Heather Townsend alongside the irritatingly comprehensive ‘Beyond Bullet Points’ by Cliff Atkinson- Reviewed here, in the ‘Oh my God, there really are people as structured, efficient, and focused as this, surely I could learn something from them…’ part of my library.

Here’s a fascinating link from Natasja Giezen, ex-colleague of mine. Interesting that Networking is one of the 5 key qualities of innovators mentioned.  Though it’s not surprising is it when you look at the other 4?
